From Carrie White, Early Years SEND Lead Teacher

Thank you all for your attendance at cluster briefings. It was so lovely to see so many of you in person. We do really enjoy the briefings and value the feedback you give to us, and we use it to move our service forward to best support you.

It was lovely to introduce Faye to you all. Faye Harbard is our new EY SEND Senior Administrator and has been with us since the beginning of November. Faye will be focusing on the Special Educational Needs Inclusion Funding (SENIF) and will become your point of contact for all queries relating to SENIF applications. Faye will be processing the applications, sending out decisions and processing the invoices. When it comes to the actual payment of the invoices, this is done via the finance team within Medway Council. Faye will send the invoices down to the finance team and will now be able to track these invoices with the team. However, she will not be the person physically responsible for the payment. Faye is keen to support you all to make sure funding issues are resolved quickly.

It has been a very busy month and we are looking forward to the New Year and the new challenges that will bring.

The Early Years SEND Team would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Training

Thanks to everyone who’s already booked to attend EY SEND training. You should have received a reply confirming your place on the training. The following sessions are now fully booked:

·        Behaviour which Challenges, Monday, 16 January 2023 9:30 am to 12 noon

·        Sensory Workshop Tuesday, 31 January 2023 9:30 am to 12:30 pm

·        Sensory Workshop Thursday, 16 March 2023 9:30 am to 12:30 pm

eO

Our training offer is free to our settings and open to all members of staff - it does not have to be the SENCO who comes along to the training.  We do have a limit to the number of people at the training session and can only accommodate 1 person per setting, but we are planning to run the sessions a few times over the year.

To sign up, please email Tina Newman at tina.newman@medway.gov.uk with the name of who will be attending.  We will accept bookings until 2 weeks before the course date or when we’ve reached the maximum number of delegates. We encourage those who’ve been put on a training waitlist to contact Tina and book on new dates as soon as you can to secure your place.

May we ask that if you are already confirmed to attend a session and you are not able to attend anymore, please contact Tina via email or at 01634 334016 so we can give your slot to the next person on the waiting list. We also ask that you let us know if someone else is taking a delegate’s place to make sure there is a certificate for the attendee.

For EY SEND Training at Gun Wharf, please note there is no parking available. The nearest paid parking is Chatham Riverside next to Chatham Library or The Pentagon.

EY SEND Forms

All SENCo Surgery and funding forms are available to download from the elearningatlast website. From the homepage https://www.e-learningatlast.org.uk/, click on Early Years Information and Guidance, click on Referral forms for Practitioners. It will ask you to log in but if you don’t have log in details, you can just click on ‘Log in as Guest’ and you should be able to access all the forms there.

Kent Children attending Medway Settings

Children who have a Kent postcode but attend Medway settings will now receive SENIF from Kent if you apply for it. The application process is via an online page: https://www.kelsi.org.uk/special-education-needs/special-educational-needs/senif/how-to-apply-for-senif - you will need to create an account in order to access the form.  In case of difficulties in completing the online form please contact the SENIF Team via SENIF@kent.gov.uk. You may also refer a child to LIFT if they are a child you would have previously spoken to the Medway EY SEND Team about as they are delayed in their development. To refer a child to Lift, you need to complete an EY LIFT referral form and an agreement to engage form – both forms were sent via email with this bulletin. It will also be accessible on the elearningatlast website (please refer to EY SEND forms on how to do so). Completed forms are to be send directly to the correct Area Specialist Teacher - below are the contact details:
